Come explore the island on a safari in Punta Cana. You'll see the typical Dominican villages, schools and learn why they introduced sugar cane culture to the island. You'll enjoy a ride through rice and sugar cane plantations, then see how they extracted sugar cane syrup using a "trapiche" – a wheel grinder pulled by oxen. The tour includes a trip up in our truck to see rural life in the Anamuya mountain.

What you’ll do

  1. Pickup at your resort

    Guests are picked up from their hotel in Punta Cana or Bávaro. Guides greet the group and outline the day’s activities during the drive.

  2. Transfer to Higüey

    Travel by safari truck through rural landscapes to visit the Basilica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, the most important church in the country.

  3. Sugar cane and rum experience

    Tour a sugar cane plantation and learn traditional methods of harvesting and processing cane juice into fine Dominican rum.

  4. Cigar demonstration

    Watch master craftsmen roll premium cigars by hand and learn how Dominican tobacco is cultivated and prepared.

  5. Visit to a Dominican home

    Meet a local family, see their coffee and cacao plantation, and taste tropical fruits, roasted coffee, and homemade chocolate.

We enjoyed the cultural tour very much. Particularly enjoyed the visit to the coffee, cocoa, and fruit plantations in the hills of Higuey. Lunch was very good as well. We were particularly happy with the attentiveness of the tour guide, "Hendry." He answered uestions and offered valuable information and local perspectives thoughout our 7-hour tour.

My family and I did the Safari Punta Cana Excursion and it was AWESOME! Our tour guide Munchie was very informative and friendly! This tour included a tour of how cigars/rum/sugar are produced/made in the Dominican, a tour of the Basilica Nuestra Señora De La Altagracia, try fresh grounded cocoa beans/tea/hot chocolate, eat a authentic Dominican lunch, and visit Macao Beach for about an hour.
